My Major is criminology and Criminal Justice Studies. This major requires a minimum of 120 units to be completed. There are a number of elective credits to help bring the total amount to 120 units if missing. Cal state provides a number of clubs related to this field which includes the Pre-Law Society, Social Justice Studies, and Political Science Club. A club that also works hand in hand with these clubs is the Speech and Debate Club.

Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies major would be found under the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral, and Social Sciences also known short for CHABSS. You can find a majority of the required classes in the Social and Behavioral Science Building also known as SBSB, which is located next to PS1 and Science Hall 2. Criminology and Justice Studies is provided through the Sociology Department. If you are wishing to double major with Criminology and Justice Studies with sociology knowing that its possible that you will be able to graduate with a bachelors in Arts. Any course with your major must be completed with a C or higher.

One impacted major outside of my major is Communication. This major requires a minimum of 120 units to be completed as well. Cal State offers different clubs that are with this major including Speech and Debate club, and Communication Society.

The full name of the major is the Bachelor of Arts in Communications. which falls under the Department of Communication and Media Studies. This is also apart of the largest department in CHABSS. This degree program is able to provide students with the knowledge of communications, its forms and uses and its cognitive effects. With a communications degree you are able to pursue different career opportunities in the areas of business management, community relations, public affairs, etc.  You can find COMM teachers offices in the Social, and Behavioral Science Building (SBSB) and where a majority of their classes is found as well.

Another major which Cal State San Marcos provides is Electrical Engineering which falls under the college of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (CSTEM).  Electrical Engineering has its own building located in Visaat Engineering Pavlov. The curriculum for electrical engineering is focused on courses in mathematics, physics, and computer science. There are high demands with this degree, so a lot of electrical engineers can find jobs in many business and industries. There is currently a new club on campus called the Amateur Radio Club which you are able to use those electrical engineering skills to use.

One last major that is provided and in the college of Business Administration (CoBA) is Business Administration. There are currently 11 different Business Administration without different options to chose from depending on what you are looking for. One Business Administration major I find quite interesting would be the Entrepreneurship Option. One project you get to take as a Senior for this class is a Senior Experience capstone course. The course is designed to challenge the students to integrate their business education and apply it into the real world. This project will be worked on in teams with other students. A great club that is provided to help those in the Entrepreneurship route is the Entrepreneurship Society.  Which helps you get in contact with others just like you who have connections.

1&2. My major is Theatre Arts, and this program is located in the Arts Building located by the USU and it is part of the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral, and Social Sciences (CHABSS). This major is very unique because all students are required to take certain courses multiple times so that everyone can have the opportunity of what it feels like to have a future career in a theatre working environment. All theatre major students are required to audition for shows each semester not only to receive a specific role for a show but for theatre faculty to evaluate each student's performance for a role that would be perfect for a future show if they didn't get cast. Another interesting thing about this major is that it doesn't just specify only on acting, this major additionally covers things that occur behind the scenes during shows, how plays are written, and the history of theatre. Finally, this major does have one club for majors and non-majors to join called "Theatre Club" which meets every other Tuesday during U-Hour from 12pm-1pm and it focuses on inclusion and getting additional opportunities for gaining experience in theatre.

3&4. An impacted major is a major at Cal State San Marcos, as well as every Cal State University in California, that has the authority to manage enrollment to preserve the best experience and service towards students and this affects transfer and first-year students. One impacted major at Cal State San Marcos is Electrical Engineering, of which many classes are located in the Viasat Engineering Pavilion, and it is a part of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (CSTEM). Due to Electrical Engineering being a top-tier major for CSTEM, all incoming first-year and transfer students should be advised that if they are an Electrical Engineering major, they should prepare by taking specific courses in high school like physics, calculus, and computer programming to gain the skills needed for this major. Finally, there is a club for Electrical Engineering majors called the "IEEE Club" which could benefit Engineering Majors and in order to receive more information you would have to contact Dr. Fan at sfan@csusm.edu.

5&6. The School of Nursing is one of the most popular majors at Cal State San Marcos and it is a part of the College of Education, Health and Human Services (CEHHS). The School of Nursing is located at the back of the University Hall building and what makes this major really interesting is that at CSUSM at Temecula there is an additional fast-paced bachelor's degree program in nursing. Finally, the School of Nursing has a student organization called the "Student Nurses Association" which is run by student nurses at CSUSM, and it involves another great opportunity to get involved as well as conducting special events like blood drives to make a difference for the community. One final major that CSUSM proudly offers is management which is offered through the College of Business Administration (CoBA). Management would be the perfect major for students who are interested in Entrepreneurship, Global Business Management, Management and Organizations, and Human Resource Management. There is a Management Department Career Guide specifically made for management students to further explain in detail the four management options that the management department offers to guide students on their journey towards a career in management.

1. My major is Electrical Engineering and most of my classes are at ViaSat Engineering Pavilion. Electrical Engineering requires you to understand how to use electricity to make a functional circuit or working machine. The skills you attain from graduating with a B.S in Electrical Engineering can land you a job being an aerospace engineer, automotive engineer, and electronics engineer. One club on campus that aligns with Electrical Engineering is Radio club where you can build your own functioning radio.

2. Electrical Engineering is a great major for students who want to go into automotive engineering in the modern electric automotive landscape. Although Electrical Engineering isn't as hands on as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering covers skills for troubleshooting that you would use for jobs that you can get with Mechanical Engineering. Electrical Engineering jobs are becoming high in demand as electronics are more desired as years go on. You can make projects at home using a breadboard, wires, and programming chips to automate tasks at home. Electrical Engineering forces you to improve your problem solving skills because whenever you assemble a circuit, many mistakes can make the circuit not work.

3. Here at Cal State San Marcos one impacted major is Software Engineering. Software Engineering is a major focused on using Computer Science to develop and test software. One club for Software Engineering students is the Computer Game Development Sub-Chapter club. This club could help students sharpen their computer science skills while making an entertaining game.

4. Software Engineering helps students improve their troubleshooting and problem-solving skills because of the heavy focus on using Computer Science to make software work. Students with Software Engineering Degrees are highly sought after and are likely to have high salaries from notable companies such as Google or Microsoft. A difference between Electrical Engineering and Software Engineering other than Computer Science classes is that Software Engineers highest form of Calculus required is Calculus II. However, Software Engineering students have to take more Math classes other than Calculus in order to graduate.

5 & 6. Another impacted major at Cal State San Marcos is Accounting. Accounting is a branch from the Business Administration where there's 9 other areas of focus. Every major under the Business Administration has a recommended road map based on the amount of semesters you want to take. Where most business courses take place is at Markstein Hall. A club at CSUSM for Accounting majors is the Accounting Society. Another major at CSUSM is Mathematics. Other than GE courses, the only other courses other than Math that Mathematics majors take is Physics I and Computer Science 111. Math majors or anyone interested in Math can attend to Math lectures held at the bottom floor of North Commons.  Math courses are usually taken in buildings across campus but the Department of Math is located at the 6th floor of the administrative building. A club for Math majors is oSTEM.

I am a Social Science major. With this major, students get to choose one Primary Field and two Secondary Fields. Some of the disciplines include psychology, anthropology, border studies and political science. This major is ideal for students wanting to get into human services, social work, government, business, or education. There is a Social Science Club!

Social Science majors are a part of CHABBS, the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences. Students are required to take up to a minimum of 120 units. There is a management society that is meant to help students with insight and connections to the business world.

2. The Business Management and Organization major is offered through the Business Administration program. It is a part of the College of Business Administration (CoBA). Most of the courses you take as a Business major are mainly focused in Markstein Hall since it is the building for CoBA. Since Business Administration is an impacted major you will need to do pre-business courses and apply for Business status once you are a junior. This is a highly competitive major so you need to ensure you maintain a 2.65 GPA.

3. Another impacted major is biology, There are four specific programs of study which are, general biology concentration, ecology concentration, molecular and cellular biology concentration, and physiology concentration.  There is also the Department of Biological Sciences Student Success which is meant to help you succeed. 1. My major is Social Science with a primary in communications and subfields in Psychology and Political Science. There is a social Science club here on campus and they meet once a month on Thursday! In a Social Science major, you pick a primary to study, mine is communication but it can be one of the 7 Social sciences we have here at CSUSM. You also choose subfields or secondary fields you have 8 to choose from. These include Border Studies, Communication, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Women's Studies, and for secondary, you can add individualized. And you need a minimum of 120 units. I enjoy Social Science because with it I get to learn about all the different fields within my one major. (CHABBS)

2.  Most of my major classes I take in SBSB, the building we are in front of. So far I have taken Social Science 100, Psych Critical Thinking, Psych 100, and Psych Stats all relate to my major. At orientation, I met many people with the same major as me and I was able to see and know all the other classes freshmen were taking or hoping to take when we came in the fall. Most people in Social Science degree you will see in multiple of your classes because everyone is taking 3 or more classes in different fields of Social Science.  When coming to school I knew I wanted to study social science, my mom studied it and so did my sister, but so far between them and me I have had a different experience. You see here at San Marcos I have already talked about how I study 3 different social Sciences, but my mom and sister did not have the opportunity as I do here they both stuck to just history. With having a primary and secondary field I am able to be well-rounded in my knowledge of social science as a whole and more than just one subfield.

3. Here at Cal State San Marcos an impacted major would be Biology. Biological Science and its impacted programs allow the department to control the amount of students they let into the program. If you want to change to a Bio Major or leave the Bio Major department you cannot do so without permission. (CSTEM)

4. Here at San Marcos you have many science classes as a Biology major as a Minor. The Department of Biological Sciences wants success for its bio students. With this they have Biology Student success coaching, Building Early Awareness, and Research in Science programs, with scholarships and advice if students need it. here at San Marcos, we have a Bachelor of Science in Biology but we also offer a Master of Science in Biology. So you can stay and do your Bachelor's and Master's here at CSUSM.

5. Marketing is a great Degree. Marketing can be found in CoBA, our college of business.  Another Degree is in Human Development which is in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services (CEHHS).

6. Marketing is a great degree and we have a Marketing Club. It is for people who want to become involved in global sales and marketing. Marketing can have hands on and there are jobs on campus that you can try to get that give you experience in marketing. Human Development is one of our largest programs on campus. People who have Human Development a degree here are seeking careers in diverse settings with counseling, health care, educational programs, social workers, health care, and more.

Research your major. Familiarize yourself with the requirements and any special things about your major. Are there clubs? Projects?

- I am majoring in Criminology and Justice Studies. Within this major, a total of 120 units needs to be completed due to it being required by the school. There is one club regarding Justice studies which is The Social Justice Studies Club. This club mainly focuses on discussions and career options. There is also AKD which is the International Sociology Honor Society.

Type up 5 sentences about your major. Its a good idea to talk about this in front of your College's building.

- Most of the classes that you need to take for this specific major are going to be located in the Social & Behavioral Science building. Criminology and Justice Studies focuses on the understanding of social correlations between crime and justice. It promotes the understanding of crime in an analytical state. We also look at the social justice system from a different perspective. It's more or less the study of crime and criminal behavior. Most of the classes for this major will be held in CHABSS (COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES, ARTS, BEHAVIORAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCES).

Research an impacted major not in your college. Familiarize yourself with the requirements and any special things about that major. Are there clubs? Projects?

- Another interesting major that is offered here is Biotechnology. This major offers something called a Biotechnology organization. The requirements for this major are 34 units of preparation for the major, and 54 units of major requirements. San Diego County has one of the largest biotechnology/life sciences industry clusters in the world, and there is a significant workforce demand.

Type up 4 sentences about that major. It's a good idea to talk about this in front of that College's building.

The biotechnology curriculum integrates both science coursework and business coursework. The college that this major is in is CSTEM which is the College of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics. When graduating from Biotechnology students will be able to apply fundamental knowledge of biology, biological processes, and the scientific method.

Look into 2 other majors outside of your college and outside of the college of your chosen impacted major (1 for each remaining college). Familiarize yourself with the requirements and any special things about those majors. Are there clubs? Projects?

- CSUSM provides a lot of different majors for students to pick from. Kinesiology is a major here at CSUSM that focuses on the study of human movement. Specific to this major is the Kinesiology Student Organization. The requirements for a Kinesiology major would be 120 total units. Specifically, you would need 25 preparation units, 31 Health science core units, 3 experience units, 9-10 Health science breadth units, and 3-4 units of advanced studies. The rest of the units are acquired by taking your normal general education classes.

- Marketing is a very popular major to take. It's very applicable and useful. CSUSM offers marketing primarily for those who are interested in global sales. The requirement for this major would be 24 units of lower-division pre-business courses, 16 units of foundation of business courses, 10 units of core courses, 20 units of electives, and 5 senior experience units. This major offers the Marketing Society which connects students to local marketing professionals.

Type up 3 sentences about each of your final 2 chosen majors. Its a good idea to talk about this in front of those College's buildings.

- Kinesiology belongs to CEHHS which is the College of Education, Health & Human Services. This major opens the door to many different careers in the areas of rehabilitation, wellness, fitness, public health, and education. Kinesiology is the study of movement within the human body, if that type of stuff interests you then look into majoring in that area.

- Marketing belongs to CoBA which is the College of Business Administration. Marketing courses are focused mostly on fundamental marketing principles and knowledge that are important for domestic and global operations. This major also gives many internship opportunities for students taking marketing.

1. Research your major. Familiarize yourself with the requirements and any special things about your major. Are there clubs? Projects?

I am currently a major in Criminology and Justice Studies, which goes under CHABSS, and since it closely relates to Sociology, you take most Sociology classes. A club that would help most individuals taking this major would be Pre-Law since many current Criminology majors want to get into Law as a graduate, which the club should let you ease into and build connections through.

2. Type up 5 sentences about your major. It's a good idea to talk about this in front of your College's building.

For a lot of people, Criminology and Justice Studies is basically just a more focused major of Sociology where people who want to do investigation or law get to choose. I have heard a lot of people choose this major as their own, so don’t be surprised if you hear a lot of people have the same major as you. The SBSB has almost every class you need for Sociology and it's easy to come by, it's right in front of you when you walk out of the bridge on the PS1 parking lot. The building seems relatively new, so even if you don’t have class it's nice to be inside and finish any class work or work in general, especially since there is a vending machine on the first floor, right next to the bathroom as well allowing for access to most necessities near by.

3. Research an impacted major not in your college. Familiarize yourself with the requirements and any special things about that major. Are there clubs? Projects?

One impacted major that most colleges have to deal with, like UC Irvine, would be computer science because of the rise of students wanting to major in the fields, but unlike most UCs, Cal State San Marcos seems to only have software engineering as an impacted major when dealing with the field of technology. Since the major is impacted, it is difficult to get into, so you have to make sure you’re on time and get the necessary grades to get in. Most campuses don't seem to have a specific computer science club, but similar to this campus, there are clubs that relate to the major such as cybersecurity which could grant you some benefits.

4. Type up 4 sentences about that major. It's a good idea to talk about this in front of that College's building.

Almost everyone knows about computer science so I will try to keep it short. It is one of the more popular majors rising in numbers these past few years. Yes, the major does allow you to get into some high-paying jobs but it also is difficult so be ready for the classes! Most have to take difficult math classes compared to other majors and other hard classes to actually move up the years so be sure you have good knowledge in those areas, but if you want to take computer science you should have a basic understanding of classes you expect to take so I won’t go over it for too long.

5. Look into 2 other majors outside of your college and outside of the college of your chosen impacted major  (1 for each remaining college). Familiarize yourself with the requirements and any special things about those majors. Are there clubs? Projects?

The two majors I looked into that were impacted were both economics in UC Berkeley and data science in UC San Diego. UC Berkeley informs its students that they must have a 3.0 GPA in their prerequisite classes to even be considered for admission as noted on their website. UCSD notes in their “Capped Major Application” section on the website that the major has become selective and harder to get into because of all of the new students applying, warning the students that admission is not guaranteed and to have a backup in case of not getting in. The good news is, that if you do get, UCSD provides, what seems to be, a great student society of data science, with an up-to-date website and visits to many popular places such as Amazon! UC Berkeley also seems to have many organizations that relate to the field of economics.

6. Type up 3 sentences about each of your final 2 chosen majors. Its a good idea to talk about this in front of those College's buildings

Economics being an impacted major was not that surprising to me, through my research of impacted majors at Cal State San Marcos I had already noted Business Administration as an impacted major. Most students should already have a great understanding in Statics, Maths, and other classes to be ready for the major. What is important though, is to realize the great job opportunities as well, with every business needing someone to take care of their economics or help.  Data science on the other hand had caught me by surprise. I hadn’t realized how valuable and competitive data science had become, but it does make sense especially with how machine learning has grown in popularity with the rise of Ai. Like other impacted majors, you have to make sure that your GPA meets the requirement, and that you are ready to put in the effort taking more advanced classes, which might cause you to have less free time in general.

Research your major. Familiarize yourself with the requirements and any special things about your major. Are there clubs? Projects?

I am a kinesiology major, but am using kinesiology as a way to apply to a nursing program. However, Kinesiology is the "study of human movement" essentially, and because of this a lot of the classes are science based, so you take a lot of kinesiology, biology, and even chemistry courses. The kinesiology department has a Kinesiology Student Organization (KSO), where they have monthly meetings where you can network with those in your same field. CSUSM also offers a Masters program in kinesiology. The kinesiology major is in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services. This is the same college that education, nursing, social work, and other majors relating to the colleges title are.  Kinesiology majors are required to take movement classes, which is fun as you can take a yoga or Pilates class. There is also a lot of opportunity and funding available for kinesiology related research projects.

Type up 5 sentences about your major. Its a good idea to talk about this in front of your College's building.

Kinesiology is a great major for those who want to peruse a career in any exercise or health based career. I have met a number of Kinesiology majors, and many of them want to be P.E. teachers, physical trainers, nurses, or even physical therapists. If you find exercise and the science around it interesting, this is a great major, as you get to take a lot of science classes, and learn lots about the body. If you want to pursue a career that requires more schooling than a Bachelors, CSUSM offers a masters in Kinesiology, which is a great opportunity to expand your education and ensure a good career. Kinesiology professors are all very wise and willing to help their students when it comes to career exploration and learning.

Research an impacted major not in your college. Familiarize yourself with the requirements and any special things about that major. Are there clubs? Projects?

An impacted major not in my college is Biological Sciences, as it is in the CSTEM college. Biological sciences are impacted, so they get more applicants than spots available, but that does vary from year to tear.  Biological sciences are the study of life, anywhere from marine and plant life to human life. They also offer a master's program, and have a program called BEARS, which offers scholarship and mentorship for students who are in it, which are first years only, that are interested in bioengineering or biomedical engineering. They also have a Biology student Success Coaching, which helps students in these majors to find the resources they need.

Type up 4 sentences about that major. Its a good idea to talk about this in front of that College's building.

The biological sciences are a great major for anyone who sees themselves in any biology related career, and it is in CSTEM. So if you want to be a physician, P.A., or any other health career, biology is a great major for you. Biology has a great mentorship program for those who are in this major, where you can be connected with resources, such as internships and careers. Biological sciences are a great major to set you up for med school, or just get a great understanding of any area of biological sciences that interests you. There are a few concentration areas for biological science degrees, and these are: general concentration, molecular and cellular biology concentration, an ecology concentration, and a physiology concentration.

Look into 2 other majors outside of your college and outside of the college of your chosen impacted major  (1 for each remaining college). Familiarize yourself with the requirements and any special things about those majors. Are there clubs? Projects?

CHABBS- Sociology. CHABBS offers a number of sociology programs, such as minors and masters programs, and even criminology and justice studies. CSUSM offers a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, there is even an accelerated BA in sociology option through the accelerated learning program, and there are also programs available through the Temecula campus. You are also able to double major in criminology and Justice Studies.

COBA- Marketing- This is a good major for those that see a career in global marketing or global sales. They also have internship opportunities, and an alumni association that offers current students advising. People who choose this major and degree should be "people oriented" and have a good base or interest in marketing. They also have conventions and group get togethers where people in COBA can form connections with other students, or individuals currently in business.

Type up 3 sentences about each of your final 2 chosen majors. Its a good idea to talk about this in front of those College's buildings.

Sociology- The sociology programs here at CSUSM offer a number of options. An interesting program they offer is a double major in criminology a justice studies, which can set you up well for law school. Sociology classes are commonly in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Building (SBSB).

Marketing- Marketing is a great major for those who want to have a career in sales or marketing (social media or regular marketing). You learn about branding and promotion and have a support system within COBA that would be beneficial to your career. The business programs here at CSUSM are one of the best, and the Markstein hall is our newest building.

My major is Business and I plan on doing marketing and entrepreneurship. As a business major, I am required to take 120 credits, and submit a Business status application to the College Of Business as a pre business major.  There are many clubs available on campus for different business majors such as the finance club, marketing club and etc. Busniess majors must complete 24 lower division classes which include; accounting, statistics, calculus, economics and more.

Type up 5 sentences about your major. Its a good idea to talk about this in front of your College's building.

CSUSM is in the top 5% of business colleges in the entire world. Business is a very impacted field of study in CSUSM and in order to receive a bachelors in the subject, students must complete at least 120 credits. These credits are divided among lower division classes, upper division, electives and capstones. If students decide to take 12 units a semester, they can expect to graduate in 4.5 years, however they can graduate sooner by taking 15 units or taking classes in the summer and winter intersection at a "sister" school such as Palomar. For the credits to count towards their overall credits and graduation, students must pass each class with a C or above, otherwise they may have to retake the class. Once students have completed ther lower division classes, they can apply to COBA and declare their official major in business such as marketing, accounting, etc.

Research an impacted major not in your college. Familiarize yourself with the requirements and any special things about that major. Are there clubs? Projects?

UC Irvine's most impacted major is computer science, the acceptance rate as of 2023 was a 22 percent. This college is also ranked at number 76 in the world for their computer science program. At UC Irvine, computer science is offered as a major, minor and graduate program. Unlike business majors in CSUSM, computer science majors attending UCI are required to complete 183 units before they are eligible for graduation. There are many computer science clubs run by students at UCI including; Masters computer science, information and computer science and more.

Type up 4 sentences about that major. Its a good idea to talk about this in front of that College's building.

Computer science is also offered at CSUSM and the program was ranked as number 25 in California and number 150 in the best compsci list. To graduate with a bachelors in computer science at CSUSM, students must complete a minimum of 120 credits. Students also have the opportunity to work alongside other computer science majors or professors through internships, clubs, and jobs which can be found on the handshake app. There are also many clubs and organizations on campus which are promoted during the U hour from 12-1pm on campus.

Look into 2 other majors outside of your college and outside of the college of your chosen impacted major  (1 for each remaining college). Familiarize yourself with the requirements and any special things about those majors. Are there clubs? Projects?

One of the most known schools for their amazing nursing program is UCLA. UCLA is ranked as number 14 in the best nursing school programs, However, it is very competitive to get accepted as each year there are about 50 open slots and UCLA receives over 5000 applications. Once accepted undergrads must take a minimum of 180 units, maintain a GPA of at minimum 2.0 and pass the registered nursing exam. There are clubs and organizations offered for the students.

The bachelors biology program in UC Riverside is in the top 15% of all colleges. Internships are available to students but are optional, they are there to provide students access to figuring out their preferred career. To graduate with a bachelors, students are required to pass a minimum of 180 units and maintain a 2.0 GPA.

Type up 3 sentences about each of your final 2 chosen majors. Its a good idea to talk about this in front of those College's buildings.

CSUSM also offers a nursing and biology program, as of 2018 the nursing program in the state. In CSUSM, the nursing program has many pathways such as; accelerated BSN, traditionally BSN and more. 1. Research your major. Familiarize yourself with the requirements and any special things about your major. Are there clubs? Projects?
    1. My major is biotechnology, and it is a very unique major as only a few schools have a specific biotechnology degree as there are only about 50 national universities that offer a standalone biotechnology degree. In this degree, many different courses are required in different fields, including biology; general, organic, and biochemistry; physics, math, accounting, and other business classes. Many students choose to do research during their time here and participate in facility labs, in addition to required labs for courses. One interesting thing is that students are pretty much getting a minor in Business Administration with the courses that are required to take. There is a program that is done at CSUSM which is called the Stem Cell Program, and it is an on-campus internship that participates in the research of stem cells.
  2. Type up 5 sentences about your major. It's a good idea to talk about this in front of your College's building.
    1. Biotechnology is a unique major at CSUSM and only about 50 colleges nationwide offer a standalone program for biotechnology (not a concentration in bioengineering or biology). Biotech majors will participate in labs during their time at CSUSM, including research in biofuels and plant biotechnology. This program’s requirements include six or seven classes of chemistry, two physics classes physics, two college biology classes including molecular and cellular biology, four business classes, and an ethics class. In addition to this, there are many other biotechnology-specific classes that are required, including the foundations of biotech, and case studies in product development and communication. The biotechnology degree is great for many different paths in sciences, including academia, industry, lab work, research, and business.
  3. Research an impacted major not in your college. Familiarize yourself with the requirements and any special things about that major. Are there clubs? Projects?
    1. One impacted major that is not in the CSTEM college is nursing. Many nursing students participate in internships/clinical placements at Kaiser Permanente, and most of the internships are paid. On campus, there is the Student Nurses Association or the SNA.
  4. Type up 4 sentences about that major. It's a good idea to talk about this in front of that College's building.
    1.  It is a very competitive program that only offers a few spots and you are not able to switch majors into the program. In order to be considered for the program, applicants need to have a great GPA and have extracurriculars. In addition to this, local area applicants are given priority over nonlocal applicants and if a student gets admitted into a different major, that student cannot switch majors or apply to the major at a later date. If students get into the program, they can look forward to many different courses in different fields of nursing, including mental health, pediatrics, and pharmacology. One important thing to note is that students are required to take two summer semesters for the program.
  5. Look into 2 other majors outside of your college and outside of the college of your chosen impacted major  (1 for each remaining college). Familiarize yourself with the requirements and any special things about those majors. Are there clubs? Projects?
    1.  In CoBA, one major that has special requirements is the business administration degree. After students are granted entry into the business program, there are many cool opportunities that students to participate in.
    2. In CHABSS, one major that is interesting is the BA in Liberal Arts. There are different degree options in this BA, with one having teaching options. One club that is on campus is the Future Educators Association.
  6. Type up 3 sentences about each of your final 2 chosen majors. Its a good idea to talk about this in front of those College buildings.
    1.  In CoBA, one major that has special requirements is the business administration degree. After students are granted entry into the business program, there are many cool opportunities that students to participate. One is the senior experience project where business students take a business and work with different organizations to help work with the business and initiate programs.
    2. In CHABSS, one major that is really interesting is a Liberal Studies major with different teaching options. The students that do decide to do this major will automatically receive a CSET I-III waiver. One thing to note is that to earn a teaching credential, you still need to complete the CSUSM School of Education’s Credential Program as the BA program just prepares for entrance into the credentialing programs.

1. My major is literature and writing and it has its very own club! The literature and writing club values community, diversity, and creativity which I think is incredible. The club also hosts open mics  events sometimes! They also have a D&D zoom game available through the literature program.

2. This major is very interesting because it values honesty over everything. It also helps you cultivate critical thinking skills. This major is better known as cultural studies because it studies many different types of literature.  This major looks at different types of writings and analyzes them  and allows you to create your own ideas about different topics like gender, ethnicity, social status, and national demographics.  We also cross-examine different cultures writings in different forms like oral tale, comic book,  folk narrative, or avant garde poems.

3. For my choice of impacted major, I chose nursing because I originally wanted to go into the health field but it just wasn't for me, but I always found it interesting.  There is a club in the nursing program called Student Nurses Association and the club is student governed. The whole point for the club is to get access to more resources and allow you the ability to test your knowledge.

4. This major is really awesome in the fact that it allows you to cultivate self care techniques to better help yourself. This whole program teaches you how to help others and help yourself at the same time.  You are also required to learn a second language so you can better help those in need. You will also have the ability to go multiple routes with this degree, such as working by yourself or with a whole team, its up to you.

5. For my first major to research, I chose Marketing because that was the route my mother wanted me to take when I first started college. First, it is a bachelor is science which I did not know until I researched it. There is a club for the business degree, its acronym is BOSS which I thought was pretty cool.  The last major I chose was Chemistry because that was the major my sister was before she switched to technical theater. Chemistry has a required project to graduate, it includes creating a thesis. There is also a club for Chemistry and Biomed previous to graduate school.

6. Chemistry is the study of atoms and all the tiny particles that make everything up, it is quite fascinating, while at the same time, Business majors have a really tough course they have to take thats hard but a group effort. Chemistry and business are both really hard majors and they are both impacted I believe.  You learn very different things with these majors, ones about figuring out the world, the other is learning how to communicate properly with others.

1. My major is Computer science. There are many events within this program that will help you find out what you want to do specifically with your comp sci degree. For example, there are clubs like the cyber security club, that are made because we don't have majors as specific as that. Like most majors you will need to complete a minimum of 120 credits for Computer Science.

2. You will need to complete a various number of courses relating to Mathematics. Courses that will need to be completed for CS would be . Complete 48 units of General Education requirements. Complete 12 units of computing essentials. Complete 38 units of Preparation for the Major courses, including CS 111, CS 211, CS 231, CS 241, MATH 160, MATH 162, MATH 260, and MATH 262. Complete 39 units of Major Requirements courses, including CS 310, CS 311, CS 321, CS 351, CS 431, CS 441, CS 497, and 15 units of CS electives. Earn a grade of C or better in all courses counted toward the major. Complete at least 15 upper-division units in the major at CSUSM.

3. Another major of interest is Wildfire Science and the Urban interface. This program offers many different courses relating to the fire industry. Such as Firefighter health and safety, Fire ecology, Ethics and the environment, and Natural resource environment just to name a few.

4. This Bachelors program is a key element to societal problems, threats, risks, and safety impacts for Fire fighters.  This is a progressive, career-oriented degree, training a new generation of expertly skilled firefighters, technical experts, decision-makers, and scientists ready to meet the evolving and increasing demands of the industry.

5. Another big major our school is very known for is Business. This is one our few impacted majors along with nursing. Requirements for impacted majors can vary. For example, nursing you may have to submit and essay for. Also, different GPA requirements to get accepted for this program.

6. Our school is in the top 5% tile of business schools in the world. This is important to acknowledge because if you break it down even further, we are one of the best in our country alone. Nursing is one of our most competitive major, solely because there are close to 1000 applicants, and we only accept 50-100.

1. My major here at CSUSM is Computer Science. There are many major related clubs, especially in the computer science community such as the linux club, cybersecuirty club, etc. This major requires a 120 units in order to truly graduate but it is common for some students to take more than 4 years in this major.

2. Computer Science is basically the study of problem-solving on computers. We utilize the power of computers in the problem-solving process while dealing with the constraints of computers. We offer to the undergraduate and graduate student a rich mix of modern computer science courses. Common to these offerings are the power, beauty, and utility of computational thought. Applications of Computer Science knowledge include almost every field from business to education, from humanities to social sciences, or from natural sciences to engineering. Therefore, the study of Computer Science contains many fields such as computer architecture, programming languages, computer networking, database systems, information management, artificial intelligence and numerical analysis.

3. One of the impacted majors here on campus is our Nursing program.

4. Nursing is particullary competitive because they usually accept around a 100 or less students every year. Their application closes 2 weeks earlier than the normal than the normal CSU application, usually around November 30th. Many of these students have a direct internship with Kaiser Pernamente since they are right next door to each other. Many of their classes are designed to look like real-life hospitals

5. The Environmental Studies Program offers students an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts degree with broad training in the physical and life sciences, social sciences, policy and law, and the arts and humanities.  The program includes introductory training in geographic information systems and research methods commonly used in environmental careers and opportunities for internships with a variety of environmental groups and agencies. Another major we offer here is  The Music major presents all aspects of music as integral parts of a complete music education; students in the major are expected to learn the language of music through the study of theory, history, performance, composition, and technology. While doing so, they will investigate various musical cultures, create their own original music or interpretations of others’ music, communicate with an audience to present their completed work, and archive their work.

6. I was debating between Computer Science and Computer Engineering. I chose CS instead because I didn't want to take the mandatory physics classes and I felt like that I could branch into more systems engineering with a CS degree due to versatility. I didn't want to add more classes onto my schedule since I was a transfer.

My major is Software Engineering which has a variety of different specialized programs and events every year.  It is focused on software design and development as well as project management.  They're computer science and cybersecurity clubs on campus which tie into my major. Software Engineering can also be a very math heavy major requiring you to take calc 1 , 2, discrete math, and linear algebra. It can be  a very difficult major to complete and is also impacted.

An impacted major outside of my college would be business. COBA or college of business administration is the college for business majors. Business majors have to be part of pre business for the first two years which they are here and then they pick their concentration as a business major. The business program here on campus is top 5% in the world. Business majors also get to go through something called the senior experience in which they work with a local business and present themselves at the end of the year to other businesses in an event where most of them receive on the spot job offers.

Another major here on campus is history majors. History majors are meant to create and develop historical research questions and go into depth on historical topics. They also analyze and evaluate the effects of multimedia in history.  Most history classes take place in markstein hall.

Another major on campus is criminology. Criminology is part of the sociology department. The major and students in it look into many types of criminal justice studies and research how criminal justice affects the world around them. They also study acts of delinquency and characteristics held by people who commit crimes.

  1. My major is Psychological Sciences, which is under the CHABBS. Psychology contains indefinite internship opportunities, trips, summer programs, summer internship, job opportunities, etc.
  2. At CSUSM, the psychology pathway consists of three lower division courses for the major. One is, Introduction to (PSYC 100), the second one is Introductory Statistics in Psychology (PSYC 220), and finally the third one being  Research Methods (PSYC 230). All of these courses are offered here at Cal State San Marcos, however if you choose to, you can take these courses in a community college and they would easily transfer. One of the interesting things they offer is Psychology 495, it’s an applied course designed to provide supervised field experience in on- and off-campus community and institutional settings. Students will spend approximately six (6) hours per week in the field and attend weekly class meetings to discuss relevant theory and research.
  3. One of the biggest impacted majors here at CSU San Marcos is Nursing. Nursing is a very competitive major. When applying, First-time freshman admission decisions will be based on college readiness and GPA. However local area applicants will be given priority over non-local applicants, which is really helpful for some students. The school of nursing can be really rewarding however.
  4. The programs the School of nursing offers, Traditional BSN, Accelerated BSN, LVN to BSN, Online RN to BSN, M.S. in Nursing. The most known one is the Traditional BSN, which usually takes up to 4 years. The program structure is Cohort-based (courses only offered once per academic year), Full-time, Courses mostly during the day, Clinical placement location, and Clinical placements randomly assigned to San Diego and Riverside Counties. Which is nice because you don't have to necessarily  attend classes.
  5. At CSUSM, the College of Education, Health and Human Services offers plenty of majors, one of them being Kinesiology. Kinesiology is intended to prepare students for careers in areas such as physical education, exercise physiology, rehabilitation, athletic training, corporate wellness, coaching, wellness coaching, and personal training. If you like fitness this major is for you.
  6. At CSUSM, they also offer Applied Physics, Electronics, and Physics which falls Under the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The degree in applied physics prepares students to succeed in a wide range of entry-level positions in high technology and biotechnology. Students will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics.

1. My major is history for single subject teaching which means I am under CHABBS, which many undergraduates go into when wanting to pursue teaching in the future like me!

2. Here at CSUSM, under history you are able to get a B.A with secondary level teaching preparing for future educators. With a history major, you must have at least 30 units completed as an undergrad. With being under CHABBS, your are also able to access clubs and scholarships , for example the  Madison Dexter Howe Scholarship which is for students in CHABBS with a political science or economics as their major are able to apply for it. They're also multiple clubs, like the future educators association that could help you have more of an understanding for your career. History here at CSUSM is very popular for pursing education, which is great for the help offered and resources given.

3. One of the most impacted majors here at CSUSM are nursing. Nursing programs  has very limited seats already with the requirement of two summers including a fall and spring semester.

4. With the nursing program already being a very impacted major, CSUSM offers many programs and has it's very own school for nursing. CSUSM offers a 24-month Accelerated BSN program, which is very competitive to get into, with it's summer program being here in San Marcos and it's summer one being in the Temecula campus. All nursing students must do a drug test and a background test in order to be able to be admitted, including pre-nursing programs.

5. CSUSM also offers engineering. With it being fairly new, we only offer software engineering and electrical engineering. They're two club options here for engineering majors like the electrical engineering club and the google student developer club. To be a engineering major is fairly easy to get into since it is fairly new but it is still a great opportunity.

6. going back to impacted majors, business is another very impacted major here at CSUSM. When first apply as a bussiness major, students are labeled as pre-business stautus and later move on into programs for more specific majors in business like accounting or finance. Business majors have their own school here called COBA ( college of business administration) which usually sets up events and clubs in front of their building which is the Markstein hall! They're multiple programs under COBA like the cougar closet which is for when you have a job interview you are able to get professional attire.

2.       There are 2 options for liberal studies majors. There is the elementary subject matter (ESM) and the integrated teacher education program (ITEP) Both options prepare students interested in teaching K-8. The ITEP offers an accelerated pathway to becoming a California teacher which means you will get your bachelors and teaching credentials in 4 years. If you are in these programs, you do not have to take the multiple subject California subject exam for teachers (CSETs).

3.       One of the impacted majors at CSUSM is nursing. First-time freshman admission decisions will be based on college readiness and your high school GPA. There is a student nurses association which is made up of the student nurses at CSUSM. They hold events every semester such as blood drives.

There is the traditional Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN), accelerated BSN, licensed vocational nurse (LVN) to BSN, online RN to BSN, and the master of science in nursing  (MSN). The nursing program lets students intern at local hospitals so they get the chance to have hands-on learning.

5.       Another major that is offered at CSUSM is business. All students who apply to the business program are initially classified at pre-business. After completing the pre-business classes the students will be changed to business status so they can register for the upper division classes. This major is also an impacted major which means the lower-division pre-business core classes should be passed with a 2.65 GPA or higher to be admitted into the business program.

6.       Another major offered is chemistry and biochemistry. Each student in these majors is required to do a senior research project, thesis, and thesis defense. The basics of analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry will be learned by the students in these majors.
